What is Acne?

Acne is a very common skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become clogged with excess oil and dead skin cells. It can also often lead to whiteheads and blackheads.

Acne typically appears on your face, forehead, chest, upper back, and shoulders and is considered the most common skin condition for teenagers. However, acne can be troublesome for people of all ages and those with all different skin types.

There are also different types of acne as well as levels of severity. Hormonal acne, for example, is more common in older adult women and is much harder to treat because your hormones are and androgen receptors are more sensitive and these hormones can trigger excess oil production and cause breakouts and clogged pores.

Symptoms of Acne

Depending on the severity of your acne breakouts, there are many symptoms you may notice with this skin condition. Whiteheads occur when the plugged pores are closed and blackheads appear when the clogged pores are open. You may also notice small, red and tender bumps on the skin, and large, solid, and often painful lumps beneath the surface of the skin.

The Basics of Acne

Excess oil production, clogged hair follicles, bacteria, and excessive hormone activity are the most common causes of acne. With it, you will also notice some inflammation that may develop.

Bacteria can begin to grow in these clogged openings. This can cause the follicle wall to begin to break down which can ultimately cause pressure. When there is this pressure, sebum can leak into the nearby tissue and form a pustule or papule. This is how the acne you get becomes inflamed.

100% Natural Solutions

When treating your acne, you want to choose 100% natural solutions to avoid causing any additional irritation for your skin. Apple cider vinegar, for example, is a natural solution you can use at home to treat your acne.

Apple cider vinegar contains different organic acids that have been shown to kill acne and even prevent scarring.

Essential oils are also often used for the treatment of acne and are the ideal choice if you are looking for a more natural solution to your acne problems.

Tea Tree Oil. This is a light essential oil that is packed full of anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. It helps reduce the size of the pimples without drying out your skin.

Lavender Essential Oil. This oil works to help prevent and heal acne breakouts. It effectively unclogs pores and reduces inflammation when it is used as part of your skincare routine. It is extremely versatile. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it is soothing for the skin. It is also antibacterial which means it can penetrate your pores easily and kill the bacteria that can cause future breakouts.

If you find yourself with acne and you want a 100% natural solution to help treat it, then consider essential oils and other natural solutions before reaching for those over the counter products that can cause your symptoms to worsen.
