Natural Exfoliators You Can Find in Your Kitchen

 

With the microbead problems, there have been, people are becoming more and more concerned about body scrubs and exfoliants they are using.
The good news is that they can ditch the commercially sold products and instead opt for DIY exfoliation at home with commonly found household products.

Sugar
Sugar is a natural humectant and can draw moisture from the environment into itself. When you use sugar to exfoliate, you can hydrate your skin and retain its moisture.

Coffee Grounds
Coffee grounds contain residual caffeine that can help increase your blood flow and reduce the appearance of cellulite. It can also provide a much evener tone for your skin.

Salt
This is much coarser than sugar but still makes a great exfoliant for the skin. Find a finer salt if you plan on using it for your body. It is a natural antiseptic and can help kill bacteria and reduce inflammation.

Oatmeal
Oats are good for use on sensitive skin and are much less abrasive than sugar and salt. Oats can help reduce inflammation and can also help heal a sunburn.

Baking Soda
This product is fine but also abrasive enough to work as an exfoliant. It can also be blended with water, honey, and coconut oil as well.

Rice Powder
When rice gets ground down into a powder, it works as an exfoliant. It can also be combined with coconut oil, sugar, and ginger root for even more therapeutic benefits.

Yogurt
This is a lesser-known exfoliant because it is so smooth in texture. However, yogurt contains lactic acid which can effectively remove dead skin cells, help with acne breakouts, and can even soften the skin.

Apple Cider Vinegar
This vinegar also contains lactic acid as well as malic acids that can exfoliate, reduce blemishes, and help treat acne. It also has alpha-hydroxy acids which help the skin rejuvenate much faster.

 

DIY Exfoliant Scrub
To make an easy exfoliating scrub at home, all you need is the following:
1 cup of coconut oil
2 cups granulated sugar
40-50 drops of any essential oil of your choosing
1 mason jar
Mix the coconut oil and sugar together in a bowl until paste forms. Depending on the thickness you want to achieve, you can add more or less oil and sugar.
You can then add in the essential oil drops. Once done, scoop the mixture into a mason jar.
Some essential oils you can choose that are good at detoxifying the skin include grapefruit oil, juniper berry, and cedarwood.

 

If you are looking for a safe and natural exfoliator, then you really don’t have to look much further than your own kitchen.
