Essential oils, in general, are often on the pricier side because there are many aspects of its production that need to be taken into account along with a few other factors.

One of the biggest price differences you will find is between different brands. One of the factors that contribute to the discrepancy in price is the quality of the essential oils. Some may be organic, and some may have a different distilling process, and all this leads to the overall quality of the essential oils being produced.

Therapeutic Grade Oils

Many companies may claim that they have therapeutic grade oils, but there is no such thing. This is a ploy often used to get people to pay more money for essential oils that really are just not the best quality.

Along the same line, cheaper oils will not always offer you the same therapeutic value as essential oils that you purchased from a company that has invested more care into the distillation, storage, and shipment of their oils.

Lavender Versus Orange Oil

Now there is going to be a price difference in the different types of oils as well. Lavender oil, for example, is probably going to cost more than orange oil. The price of oils is also attributed to their species. Some will be more expensive than others and will have different therapeutic properties as well.

The Extraction Process

Since oils extracted from the leaves of a tree can result in different aromas and properties when compared to extracting the oil from the bark of the tree. You may find that oils taken from the bark will be more costly because they are often more preferred.

Also, many essential oils are steam distilled, while many citrus oils are cold-pressed. So, you also have to figure in the cost of extraction as well as the costs involved to produce the essential oil. This is another reason the prices may be higher.

Along with these factors, you also must consider how much plant material is used to produce the oil, how much overhead is involved, as well as the labels and packaging. If you want the higher quality oils that provide you the best in therapeutic benefits, then you are going to be paying a bit more for that quality.
